Cultured marble countertops range from basic store bought ones, to custom made counters for new home construction.

Older cultured marble was often made with 2-3 colors that were poured into the mold to give the surface a swirly like marble look.

Newer cultured marble is more basic, with either one color or two very similar colors.

When new, cultured marble is easy to maintain. However as it ages, it becomes dated very fast.

Cultured marble countertops are prone to UV damage. When there is a lot of natural sunlight hitting the surface, it will slowly turn the counter a yellow color.

Cultured marble sinks that are built into the counter are also prone to temperature shock. If the counter is cold and you run extremely hot water through it, the surface will craze due to the rapid expansion. This looks like tiny spiderwebbing cracks. At first they are so thin you can not really even feel them. But eventually they will open up and start to mildew.

Formica countertops are the most common type of counters seen in older homes and newer mid range homes.

Formica is a laminate glued over the top of particle board.

While it is fairly durable, Formica is prone to heat damage and scratching. It may also start to delaminate, especially in the seams. It is also not very glossy.

When we resurface Formica counters, we are able to fill in chips and scratches and even remove delaminated sections for repair. Then our coating turns the counter into a seamless, fresh glossy surface.

We typically recommend refinishing Formica kitchen countertops with one of our like stone products. But we may be willing to do them in solid colors too.

Corian is one of the newest materials for counters. It is similar to cultured marble in that it is a composite. But it is made with drastically different materials that make it more durable. Plus it tends to have more of a speckled look.

Corian kitchen countertops often have a sink formed into the counter similar to Corian bathroom countertops. You can tell this if the sink basin is a different color than the countertop but is a seamless transition.

Corian is much more resistant to temperature damage and holds it color better than cultured marble. But it is still prone to scratching.

If your Corian sink or counter cracks, then we generally recommend replacing it. But if you are tired of the dull, scratched look, then Corian countertop refinishing is the quickest method to get more life out of your counter.

Tile countertops are not very common in new home construction. But they had been used for many decades so we encounter them often.

Some tile countertops have drop in sinks or undermounted sinks. Either way we are able to reglaze the tile countertop with or without the sink.

When we reglaze the tile countertop, it will still retain the look and shape of tile. However the grout lines will be sealed by our coating. This may be good if your grout lines are stained and discolor, but may not be good if you had contrasting tile and grout.
