What can be refinished?
What can be refinished and will
bathtub refinishing work for me?
There are many items in your home that can
be reglazed Some of these items come in
different materials. If you are unsure of the
material type of item that you have, contact
us, and one of our estimators will easily be
able to assist you, or read more about
material types here. Here is the list of
common items by category.
The most commonly refinished item in
homes is the bathtub. Over the years,
bathtub construction materials have varied
greatly. The oldest and most durable tubs
are made from Porcelain Coated Cast Iron,
which by their nature are very heavy and are
difficult to move. Because of their long
lifespan, tub enamel rerpairs may be
requred, as the surface of these tubs can
become worn, scratched, rust-stained or
chipped, while the structure of the tub itself
remains solid for many more years of use.
Bathtub reglazing is a great option for
restoring these tubs to a bright, shiny, easy
to clean surface.
Another common type of bathtub material
is Porcelain Coated Steel. These tubs are
much lighter weight, with a thinner coat of
porcelain. They are less expensive to
purchase, but are still quite difficult to
replace, making refinishing a good solution.
We can reglaze tile above the bathtub along
with the tub to add a fresh new look to your
bathroom
Some of the most common types of tubs in
use today are made of Fiberglass or Acrylic.
These tubs come in a wide variety of sizes
and shapes, sometimes with unique designs
or shapes that make them difficult to
replace. Over time, the surface finishes of
fiberglass or acrylic tubs can become
scratched, worn or dull, as well as stained by
various cleaning chemicals or hair dyes.
Fiberglass and acrylic tub repairs can be
made, including fiberglass trub crack repair
or fixing bathtub holes. Also, as decorating
tastes change, some of the original colors of
these tubs become out-dated and it is time
to modernize.
Less common types of bathtubs are made of
Cultured Marble or Tile. Cultured marble
tubs are another very heavy construction
material, and consequently are difficult to
remove and replace. They sometimes have
built-in steps and are surrounded by large
decks or backsplashes. Because the cultured
marble has a gel-coat finish, they are prone
to become dull or faded-looking. We can
make tub crack repairs on cultured marble
tubs as long as they are fine hairline cracks
called crazing. While the marbleized look of
the material was considered to be stylish at
the time, since then a solid color surface has
become more popular. Tile tubs are rather
uncommon, but if your house has one of
them, it is much easier to have it resurfaced
than go through the time and cost of a tub
and shower replacement.
Shower bases are made in many of the same
materials as bathtubs, including
Fiberglass, Acrylic, Cultured Marble, or Tile.
Some shower bases are constructed of
Cement (also known as Terrazzo or Exposed
Aggregate) All of these materials can be
refinished.
Tub surrounds, shower walls and bathroom
walls are often made of Tile, Fiberglass,
Acrylic, or Cultured Marble. Each of these
materials can be refinished at the same time
as the bathtub or seprately, for a large savings
over the cost of replacing. Certain after
market thin acyrlic shower surrounds may not
be able to be coated. However it is often hard
to tell if they can or cannot, so we
recommend taking a picture and then
contacting us for our recommendation.
Unfortunately we are not able to refinish
natural stone tile such as granite, travertine or
slate. This is due to tile sealants that repel our
coatings and are absorbed deep into those
stone surfaces.
Types of bathroom sinks can vary from one
piece Cultured Marble units to drop in
Porcelain, Ceramic, Acrylic, or Fiberglass sinks,
and even free standing pedestal sinks. All of
these materials can be refinished. Kitchen
sinks can be top-mounted or under-mounted.
Because of the heavier use of kitchen sinks
with pots and pans, knives and cooking
utensils, it is recommended that kitchen sinks
be replaced instead of refinished if possible. If
the sink is too difficult to remove, we can
refinish it, but we cannot warranty the finish
of a kitchen sink.
Formica, cultured marble, Corian and tile
countertops can be refinished in either solid
color or stone-fleck finishes. We are able to
resurface kitchen counters, bathroom vanities
and bar counters throughout the home.
